How FLAMES Works
FLAMES is a word elimination game. The calculator takes the two names, removes any letter that appears in both (one for one — like cancelling out fractions), counts how many letters remain in total, and then uses that count as the "step size" in a counting-out elimination of the word FLAMES. Starting from F, count to your number, remove that letter, and start counting again from the next position. Keep going until only one letter remains. That letter — Friends, Love, Affection, Marriage, Enemies, or Siblings — is your result.
The Six Outcomes Explained
Friends — you have a strong, supportive friendship that lifts both of you up. Love — you're meant for romantic love, the most coveted result for crushes. Affection — a tender, warm connection without the dramatic fireworks of Love. Marriage — long-term commitment is in the cards (or at least the math). Enemies — you push each other's buttons in incompatible ways. Siblings — you're like brother and sister, family in spirit. None of these are objectively good or bad outside the game — Friends and Siblings can be the deepest bonds in real life, even if they don't sound as exciting as Love.
Why People Still Love FLAMES
Decades after it spread through schoolyards, FLAMES is still one of the most-played name games on the internet. Part of the appeal is the math: it's deterministic, so it feels like the result is "real". Part is the cultural memory — anyone who played it as a kid feels nostalgic seeing it again. And part is that it gives people a low-stakes way to bring up feelings: telling someone "the FLAMES calculator says we're a Marriage" is a flirt that doesn't put anyone on the spot. It's a safer way to test the waters than declaring intentions outright.
Variations of the FLAMES Game
Some versions use FLAME (5 letters) without Siblings; others add Yes/No outcomes; others spell different words like FLAMES YOU LOVE or PERSONAL. The most common version is the classic six-letter FLAMES, which is what this calculator uses. Some regional variants in India spell BHAGY or KISMAT instead. The math is identical in all versions — only the word changes. If you want to play a variant, write the word on paper and follow the same elimination rules.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my FLAMES result keep changing?
It only changes if the names change. Same two names always give the same result.
Can FLAMES be wrong?
FLAMES is a game, not a prediction — it can't be "right" or "wrong" because there's nothing to predict.
Should I tell my crush the FLAMES result?
Sure, if it's playful and the situation is right. It's a low-pressure way to flirt.
Is there a way to always get Love?
No — the math is deterministic from the input letters. Try different name combinations until you get the result you want.
What's the difference between FLAMES and a love calculator?
Love calculators use letter sums to give a percentage; FLAMES uses elimination to give a label. Both are for fun.
